Taiwan's DPP announces second wave of candidates for Chiayi County mayoral races; incumbent to step down

Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has unveiled its second list of candidates for township and city mayoral positions in Chiayi County, signaling its preparations for the upcoming local elections.

The announcement includes candidates for seven electoral districts: Shuishang, Liujiao, Budai, Xin gang, Xikou, Dalin, and Zhongpu. Notably, the current DPP mayor of Lucao Township, Yan Peiyu, has decided not to run for re-election, leaving her position open for a new candidate to be determined by the party's selection committee.

Party chairman Hsu Ming-hsun confirmed that incumbent mayors are running for re-election in Shuishang, Liujiao, Budai, Xin gang, Dalin, and Zhongpu. In Xikou Township, councilor Liu Ya-wen will represent the party. For Zhuzaki Township, council chairman Chen Hung-chi was selected based on public opinion polls.

Hsu stated that with these new nominations, the DPP now has candidates for 13 mayoral positions in the county. He expressed the party's commitment to supporting these candidates and working with members and supporters to achieve electoral success and build a better future for the region.
