Taiwan's National Digital Library Offers Free Access to 500,000 E-books Through Cross-Library Borrowing

The National Digital Library of Taiwan (NDL) has launched a "New Vision for AI Reading" digital reading promotion event, partnering with 13 counties and 119 public libraries across Taiwan. This initiative allows citizens to access a vast collection of over 50,000 types and 500,000 e-books for free. The program runs until November 9, 2027. To encourage reading habits, the NDL has introduced several incentives. Readers who borrow eight e-books during the event period can enter a physical prize draw. For those who consistently read, borrowing over 20 e-books per month qualifies them for an online lottery. Additionally, the top five readers based on borrowing rankings will receive a special insulated bottle. Participants can also engage with the NDL's Facebook page, completing tasks like liking and sharing posts for a chance to win prizes such as storage racks and travel organizer sets. The NDL's e-book service platform utilizes "hot keywords" to recommend quality reading materials and regularly features themed book exhibitions to help users find books that match their interests. The platform also integrates a "one-card pass" system, simplifying the authentication process for cross-library borrowing. Members only need to agree to register with a partner library to easily borrow e-books from participating counties and cities, offering a convenient and diverse digital reading experience. Furthermore, the NDL has organized a series of free online live courses titled "Future Literacy Academy" on specific dates throughout August, September, October, and November. These sessions will feature professional speakers discussing topics such as AI's integration with financial trends, discerning truth in the age of AI, learning languages with AI, nutritional strategies for career longevity, and beating inflation through dietary choices. These courses aim to enhance participants' digital literacy skills.
