Taiwanese Man Fined Over NT$220,000 for Unlicensed Driving, Family Pays Debt

A 22-year-old man from Taiwan, identified by the surname Tsai, faces significant penalties for multiple instances of unlicensed driving before reaching the age of 18, including an incident where he injured a police officer. He has been fined a total of NT$221,400 for these offenses.

Tsai was cited for seven violations between 2021 and 2023, which included riding a scooter without a license, driving a car dangerously, running red lights, and driving a car without a license while also being a repeat offender within five years. Despite being notified to pay the fines by the deadline, Tsai failed to do so, leading the Tainan City Transportation Bureau to transfer the case to the Administrative Enforcement Agency's Tainan branch for compulsory execution.

Upon receiving the case in January 2023, Tsai's family initially applied for an installment payment plan. However, they intermittently failed to make payments on schedule. Enforcement officers later discovered that Tsai had savings, prompting them to issue an order to seize these funds.

Upon learning of the impending seizure, Tsai's family promptly contacted the Tainan branch of the Administrative Enforcement Agency. They expressed their willingness to pay the full outstanding amount and requested that the seizure order be rescinded. Subsequently, the family paid Tsai's fines on his behalf, settling the debt and preventing the confiscation of his savings.
