Taiwanese Pitcher Pan Wen-Hui Extends Scoreless Streak to Five Games

Taiwanese "fireballer" Pan Wen-Hui continues to impress in the Philadelphia Phillies' Double-A system, extending his streak of scoreless appearances to five games. The hard-throwing pitcher recently took the mound against the Baltimore Orioles' Double-A affiliate, contributing to a game where his team ultimately lost 2-3.

In the top of the eighth inning, with his team trailing 0-3, Pan entered the game. He efficiently retired the first two batters he faced. Although he allowed a single to the third batter, he quickly induced a fly ball out and then recorded a strikeout, preserving his scoreless inning. His performance that day required only 11 pitches, with just two balls, and included one strikeout and zero walks. This latest outing further lowered his earned run average to 3.60 and his WHIP to 1.67.

Beyond Pan's consistent performance, other Taiwanese players are also making their mark in minor league baseball. Lee Hao-Yu is playing at the Major League level. In Triple-A, Cheng Tsung-Che had an on-base streak of four games despite not recording a hit in his last two at-bats, drawing one walk. Mixed-race sluggers Jonathon Long and Stuart Fairchild also showed solid performances, with Long going 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, and Fairchild going 0-for-3 with a walk.

In High-A, Chang Hung-Ling, pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, received another start but struggled, giving up five runs in four innings despite striking out a season-high seven batters. He was charged with his sixth loss of the season. In Single-A, Lee Chen-Hsun, a reliever for the Giants, had a mixed outing with control issues, including three wild pitches and a hit-by-pitch, but managed to pitch two innings with three strikeouts and two walks, allowing two unearned runs. His ERA in Single-A remains a perfect 0. Meanwhile, Dodgers prospect Ko Ching-Hsien bounced back from a hitless game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
