Taiwanese prospect Yang Po-Hsiang selected for Japan minor league All-Star Game

Taiwanese infielder Yang Po-Hsiang, 21, is making strides in his professional baseball career, earning a spot in the Japanese minor league All-Star Game for the first time. The young talent, currently playing for the Rakuten Golden Eagles, has showcased his potential throughout the season.

Yang was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2024 Japanese draft. He made his major league debut on October 3rd of the same year, immediately marking the occasion with a hit in his first at-bat as a pinch hitter. This season, Yang began in the minor leagues, receiving a call-up to the major league roster on April 10th. He appeared in one game, going hitless in his single at-bat, before being sent back to the minor leagues for further development on April 12th.

In the minor leagues this season, Yang has played in 51 games, accumulating 143 at-bats. He has recorded 40 hits, including one home run, and driven in 14 runs. His batting statistics show a .280 average, a .335 on-base percentage, and a .399 slugging percentage, resulting in an .734 OPS. He has also demonstrated his speed on the basepaths, with 7 stolen bases.

In the All-Star Game, Yang was in the starting lineup as the shortstop, batting seventh. While his first three at-bats did not result in hits, he drew a walk in his fourth plate appearance and subsequently scored a run thanks to a teammate's hit.
