Tajikistan to Hold Population and Housing Census in 2030

Tajikistan is preparing to conduct a nationwide population and housing census from October 1 to October 31, 2030. President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree on June 6, mandating the census to gather crucial data on the country's population size and distribution. This information is vital for developing state forecasts, strategies, and programs for socio-economic development, as well as for studying demographic trends.

The Agency on Statistics under the President is tasked with the comprehensive organization, conduct, data processing, and publication of the census results. To ensure the census is carried out effectively and on time, the agency is authorized to hire workers on a contractual basis. Their salaries will be increased by 1.5 times compared to the official salaries of permanent employees, with costs covered by the census budget.

Financing for the census preparations, execution, and results dissemination will be secured through the state budget for 2026–2033 and grants from international organizations. Ministries, departments, and local executive bodies are instructed to provide full practical support to the statistical bodies to guarantee the quality and timeliness of the census. As of January 1, 2026, Tajikistan's population was estimated at 10.721 million people. The last census was conducted in October 2020.
