Tamaulipas Prosecutor's Office detains Danna Yanina after statement on Dafne Zapata's death; investigation continues

Danna Yanina was reportedly detained by the Tamaulipas Attorney General's Office (FGJT) on Wednesday night as she went to provide a statement about the death of Dafne Zapata Quintos at the Marina Doenitz Military Academy. The FGJT has maintained official silence on the case, including the initial arrest, and did not respond to inquiries by the time of reporting.

Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding Yanina's detention. One version suggests she was arrested after arriving to give her statement, while another claims she was located and apprehended in Tampico by investigative police. Media outlets observed Yanina leaving the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crimes Against Children and Women in Tampico late Wednesday. By midnight, she was transferred to the Madero Prosecutor's Office, where she spent the night.

On Thursday, Yanina was transported by investigative police to attend an initial hearing before a Control Judge at the Altamira Integral Justice Center. Alejandra Quintos, a relative of Dafne Zapata, shared a video stating that five adults were present at the scene of the incident and urged the public to continue their support for authorities to investigate thoroughly and apprehend all those involved.

Testimonies have surfaced, including one from a citizen who spoke with Yanina's parents. This individual stated that Yanina, an 18-year-old from Poza Rica, Veracruz, was also a victim at the academy and was not allowed to leave despite being set to graduate. The citizen suggested Yanina might be a scapegoat. An audio recording circulating on social media, purportedly from Danna Yanina, corroborates claims of mistreatment, stating she was forced to sleep in a dog kennel upon her arrival at the academy.
