Tambakmekar Village Develops Nature and Culture Tourism with Pinus Kujang Festival

Desa Tambakmekar in Subang, West Java, is cultivating its natural and cultural attractions with the "Pinus Kujang Festival 2026." The event, scheduled for August 1-2 at Timman Hill, blends natural beauty with local arts, culture, cuisine, and traditional games to draw visitors.

Deden Rizal R, head of the Community Service team, emphasized that tourism development must go hand-in-hand with preserving local heritage. "This festival's theme is 'Caring for Natural Potential, Arts, Culture, Cuisine, and Traditional Games.' Through the Pinus Kujang Festival, we hope local wisdom and traditions can be well-maintained, managed, and developed," he stated.

The festival is part of a community service program funded by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology. It featured traditional Subang arts like Sisingaan, Singa Abrug, angklung, jaipong dance, and pencak silat, performed by students and local art studios. The Singa Abrug performance, using forest products like rattan and pine leaves, highlighted the connection between the region's natural wealth and its culture.

Rector Didin Saepudin of Universitas Sangga Buana YPKP noted that tourism development should benefit the community broadly, not just the tourism sector. The involvement of MSMEs, art and cultural practitioners, and local government aligns with the university's Tridharma mission," he said.

The festival also promoted Tambakmekar's gastronomy, featuring dishes like "ikan lemeng" (lemeng fish), mushroom dishes, pineapple "wajit" (a sticky rice cake), and karedok. This culinary focus aims to integrate local products into the tourist experience, boosting economic opportunities for residents and MSMEs. Nenny Hendajany, Director of LPPM at Universitas Sangga Buana, stressed the need for collaboration between universities, communities, tourism awareness groups, and government. "This festival is not just entertainment; it proves Tambakmekar village is leveling up, with the grand goal of opening Pinus Kujang to the world," she declared.
