Tangerang Police to Crack Down on Electric Bicycles on Main Roads

Authorities in Tangerang, Indonesia, are set to enforce stricter regulations on the use of electric bicycles on public roads. The Satuan Lalu Lintas (Satlantas) Polresta Tangerang announced plans to increase surveillance and crack down on electric bikes to curb the rising number of traffic accidents in the region.

According to Kompol Fery Octaviari Pratama, head of the traffic unit, the use of electric bicycles on general roadways is prohibited under Ministry of Transportation Regulation No. 45 of 2020. He emphasized that the enforcement will begin with preventive measures, including extensive public education and socialization campaigns.

"We will implement preventive measures, including education and socialization to the public," Fery stated. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance road safety. This includes consistent law enforcement, monitoring of heavy goods vehicles, and training for young traffic cadets. Fery noted that traffic accidents, particularly fatal ones, remain a concern in Tangerang, underscoring the need for increased public discipline and adherence to traffic laws.
