Taoyuan enhances senior card with 5 new benefits, including farm store credits

Taoyuan City announced a significant upgrade to its Senior Citizen and Love Card program, set to take effect on January 1, 2025. The enhancements aim to provide greater benefits and encourage elderly residents to engage more actively in their communities and maintain their health.

Mayor Chang San-cheng highlighted that the core principle of the card is to "guide elderly behavior through welfare." He explained that while the city already offers substantial financial aid, the Senior Citizen and Love Card serves as an "incentive-based welfare" tool. This complements the existing living subsidies, creating a comprehensive support system for the elderly population.

The upgraded program introduces five key benefits. The subsidy for love taxis will increase to NT$90 per trip. For the first time, cardholders will receive a one-time subsidy of 500 points for advance medical care consultations. Additionally, each session of a "silver strength" exercise class will be subsidized by 200 points, with a limit of four classes per month. A new monthly credit of 200 points will be available for purchases at agricultural cooperatives, excluding alcohol (except cooking wine), tobacco, and certain agricultural supplies, focusing on daily necessities and healthy foods.

Furthermore, a monthly medical subsidy of 100 points will be introduced, covering outpatient and emergency room registration fees, co-payments for hospital stays, dental services (including cleaning and dentures), non-insured self-paid items, health check-ups, and self-paid vaccinations. The card's points will remain valid only for the month they are issued, reinforcing the goal of encouraging regular outings. These enhancements focus on promoting health, delaying disability, and fostering collaboration with local industries.
