Taoyuan Honors Model Mother Whose Influence Led Children to Public Service

In Taoyuan City, the remarkable resilience and dedication of Lin Su-lian have been recognized with the prestigious Model Mother award. This honor celebrates her unwavering commitment to her children following her divorce in 1984. Lin's story is one of immense sacrifice and perseverance, as she single-handedly shouldered the responsibility of raising her four children.

Her days were filled with relentless work, from selling noodles during the day to undertaking intricate sewing for raincoats at night. She often slept only three hours a day, driven by a singular focus: to provide her children with a quality education. Her eldest son, Li Long-tan, who now serves in the Taoyuan City Fire Bureau, recalled secretly helping his mother with her sewing work as a child, desperate to alleviate her burden.

Lin's profound influence extended beyond academics; her actions and words instilled a deep sense of civic duty in her children. This dedication to 'protecting the home and defending the nation' has inspired three of her four children to join the ranks of firefighters and police officers. Tragically, her son Li Han-lin lost his life in the line of duty during the 2018 fire at Jingpeng Industrial in Pingzhen. Another son serves as a patrol officer in Taoyuan.
