Taoyuan Truck Crash into Utility Pole Causes Blackout for 2,858 Households; Power Expected Back by Evening

A traffic accident in Taiwan's Taoyuan city on the morning of July 27, 2026, resulted in a significant power outage affecting thousands of residents. A large truck, driven by a 64-year-old man identified by the surname Zhang, collided with a utility pole and a parked small truck along Taoyuan County Road 5 in Dayuan district.

The collision caused the immediate disruption of electricity supply to 2,858 households in the surrounding areas, including Puxin Village, Zhongzheng East Road Section 1, Puhang Road, Sanhe Road, Sanshi Village, Fude Road, Guolin Road, and parts of Luzhu district's Dazhu North Road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. Preliminary checks confirmed that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol level of zero.

Taiwan Power Company reported being notified of the incident at 9:29 AM and immediately dispatched crews to repair the damage. While efforts were made to restore power by rerouting supply, approximately 673 households remained without electricity as of 1 PM. The company estimates that full power restoration for all affected households is expected by 6 PM on the same day.

Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident. The Dayuan Precinct of the Taoyuan City Police Bureau urged drivers to ensure their vehicles are in proper working condition before driving and to prioritize road safety to prevent similar incidents.
