Tarcísio says he will work for Republicanos' support of Flávio Bolsonaro, sees alliance chance

São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas announced his intention to actively campaign for the Republicanos party's endorsement of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro. Freitas indicated that there is indeed a possibility for such an alliance, despite Bolsonaro's recent convention highlighting his isolation.

"We will work very hard for this. There is a chance [for support], of course there is," Freitas told Painel after the senator's convention on Saturday. The Republicanos party represents the final potential ally for the PL party, as other major political groups like the União Brasil-PP federation and various centrist parties have opted for neutrality.

During the convention, Bolsonaro appeared closely aligned with economist Daniella Marques, a member of the Republicanos. The two were seen side-by-side on stage, engaging in constant conversation, suggesting she could be a potential vice-presidential candidate. The Republicanos have scheduled their own convention for August 4.

However, the path to an alliance is complicated. The president of the Republicanos, Marcos Pereira, currently leans towards neutrality and is demanding PL support in several states before considering a coalition. A critical point of contention is Mato Grosso, where Governor Otaviano Pivetta of the Republicanos is seeking reelection. Despite this, PL president Valdemar Costa Neto has signaled that support for Pivetta may not be forthcoming, having already announced Senator Wellington Fagundes, Pivetta's rival, as the "future governor of Mato Grosso."
