Tarija Deploys Robots and Drones to Combat Forest Fires

Tarija, Bolivia, is bolstering its firefighting capabilities with the introduction of advanced technology, including specialized robots and drones. These unmanned ground vehicles, developed by the Boliviana Navy, are designed to traverse challenging landscapes, including wooded areas and steep slopes, thanks to their tracked systems and robust engines. The deployment aims to enhance the region's response to forest fires, particularly in areas that are difficult to access.

Víctor Valdivia, commander of Naval Area 3 in Bermejo, stated that the "hedgehog" robots and drones will be readily available to combat any fires. "They are robotic machines that can withstand high temperatures and do not put personnel at risk when facing flames," Valdivia explained. He added that these units are being stationed in Tarija specifically for this purpose.

The hedgehog robots are capable of projecting water supplied by fire trucks over distances of 60 to 70 meters. Both the robots and drones recently participated in mitigating a fire in Rincón de La Victoria, the last remaining blaze in the Central Valley of Tarija that had been affected by recent incidents. Governor María René Soruco highlighted the arrival of the hedgehog robots, emphasizing their readiness for any contingency. President Rodrigo Paz expressed pride in inaugurating this technology's operation in Tarija for the first time.
