Taste of Summer: Daugavpils hosts 'Shades of Taste' street food festival on August 29

Daugavpils, Latvia's second-largest city and a convenient destination near the Lithuanian border, is set to host the "Shades of Taste" street food festival on August 29. This major gastronomic event promises a vibrant celebration of Latvian cuisine and culture, running from 3 p.m. until 3 a.m. in the city's central park.

The festival will bring together dozens of food creators from across Latvia, alongside local brewers, musicians, and dancers, creating a lively atmosphere for hundreds of food enthusiasts. Attendees can expect a wide array of culinary offerings, including juicy burgers, grilled meats and fish, international-inspired dishes, crispy snacks, sweet treats, and refreshing beverages. The event also features a dedicated "Beer Garden" showcasing local breweries and their diverse beer selections, offering insights into brewing traditions from Latgale and other Latvian regions.

The day's program kicks off at 3 p.m. with an opening ceremony and dance performances. Food lovers can participate in engaging contests starting at 4 p.m., followed by live music from the band "Laika Upe" on the main stage at 5 p.m. The evening's musical entertainment continues with "The Kruasans" and singer Diāna Paško at 7:30 p.m. From 9 p.m. until 3 a.m., the central park will transform into an open-air party with DJ EdgarStorm.

Musical performances will also take place at the Beer Garden stage, featuring the percussion ensemble "Ekho" at 3:30 p.m. and DJ Gatis from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The festival is designed to appeal to families, with a dedicated children's zone offering games, carousels, virtual reality attractions, and a handicraft fair available from 3 p.m. onwards.

Beyond the festival, visitors are encouraged to explore Daugavpils itself. The city boasts historical sites like the Daugavpils Fortress and the Rothko Museum, as well as a charming city center and scenic waterfront along the Daugava River. Its proximity to Eastern Lithuanian cities makes it an ideal location for a day trip, combining urban exploration with a memorable gastronomic adventure.
