Tauron Ends Energy Billing Forecasts, Adopts Monthly Meter Readings

Tauron Dystrybucja is transitioning to a new monthly billing system for all prosumers connected to its grid, effective September 1. This significant shift replaces the previous method of issuing invoices based on energy consumption forecasts with a system that relies on actual, monthly meter readings.

The company, which serves approximately one-third of Poland's prosumers, stated that the change will be implemented automatically and requires no action from customers. The primary goal is to increase the transparency of energy bills and provide consumers with better tools to control their energy costs.

Customers may notice fluctuations in their monthly bills under the new system. These variations will reflect the actual amount of energy consumed and the seasonal differences in energy production from their photovoltaic installations. Consequently, bills could be higher during winter months and lower during the summer.

Prosumers who joined the Tauron network starting in 2026 are already being billed under this new monthly, actual-usage model. Tauron encourages customers to use its eLicznik application, which allows for real-time monitoring of energy consumption data and comparison across months. A final bill covering usage up to August 31, 2026, will be issued separately, potentially around the same time as the first bill under the new rules.
