Taxi Driver Robbed and Assaulted by Passengers in Vienna; Separate E-Scooter Robbery Leads to Arrest

A 67-year-old taxi driver in Vienna-Floridsdorf was the victim of a violent robbery and assault early Sunday morning. The driver reported the incident around 2:00 AM, presenting with a bleeding head wound at a police station. He told authorities that two passengers had threatened him with what appeared to be a firearm, struck him on the head, and stolen his wallet before fleeing towards a nearby housing complex.

The attack occurred while the taxi driver was stopped on Oswald-Redlich-Straße. Following the assault, he received initial treatment from emergency services and was transported to a hospital for further care. The State Criminal Police Office of Vienna, External Office North, has taken over the investigation into this robbery.

In a separate incident, a robbery on the Danube Island in Vienna-Donaustadt concluded with the arrest of a 21-year-old Syrian national. This incident took place approximately three hours before the taxi driver's attack. The suspect allegedly threatened a 30-year-old man with a knife and stole his e-scooter. The arrested individual appeared impaired to the officers, suggesting possible drug use. He was reportedly slightly intoxicated and exhibited motor control issues.

The 21-year-old suspect, who was not wearing a shirt, fled the scene with a second individual on the stolen e-scooter. However, a swift search by officers from the WEGA special unit led to his apprehension in the vicinity of the crime scene. The suspect refused to make a statement and is currently in police custody. The e-scooter was recovered and returned to its owner undamaged.
