Tea Connects Cultures as Kuwait and China Celebrate 55 Years of Ties

Kuwait and China marked 55 years of diplomatic relations by celebrating their shared appreciation for tea and hospitality at the 18th Summer Cultural Festival. The event, organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) in cooperation with the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait, featured traditional Chinese tea-making rituals.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Jassar, NCCAL Secretary-General, stated that the gathering underscored the close cooperation between the council and the Chinese Embassy. He noted that the event offered a glimpse into authentic Chinese culture and traditions, highlighting parallels with Kuwaiti and Arab customs. "Tea is not merely a daily habit in many cultures, but also a means of communication that brings people together and bridges distances," Al-Jassar said, emphasizing that tea rituals embody universal values like hospitality, respect, and dialogue.

Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait Yang Xin described the event as a testament to the strong cultural ties between the two nations. He pointed out that the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait, the first in a Gulf state, serves as a vital platform for cultural exchange. The celebration included demonstrations, interactive activities, an exhibition of tea-related items, and tasting sessions, offering a rich cultural experience centered on the enduring symbol of hospitality.

Visitors enjoyed selected Chinese teas alongside traditional sweets representing both cultures, creating a unique blend of Chinese and Arab traditions. The event aimed to deepen understanding and strengthen the bond between the people of Kuwait and China through shared cultural practices.
