Teacher detained after allegedly beating student over exam results

Police in Medgidia, Romania, have detained a 54-year-old teacher on suspicion of abuse and disturbing public order after she allegedly physically assaulted a 10-year-old student.

The incident reportedly took place on May 25th. According to a statement from the Constanța County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Constanța), the teacher allegedly attacked the minor after he tore up a document containing his personal results from the National Evaluation exam. The alleged assault occurred in a classroom and reportedly instilled fear and indignation among the other students present.

The teacher was detained for 24 hours and is scheduled to appear before the case prosecutor at the Medgidia Court. Legal representatives of the minor have been provided with a request form to seek a protection order from the court.

In response to the incident, the Constanța County School Inspectorate has established a commission to investigate the matter at the educational institution.
