Technician Pleads Not Guilty to Uploading Offensive Video About Pig Farm Project

A 29-year-old technician pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Sessions Court to charges related to uploading an offensive video concerning a pig farm project.

Mohamad Norfirdaus Abdul Rahman entered his plea before Judge Ahmad Fuad Othman. The charge alleges that on January 12, around 4:11 AM, he posted a four-minute video deemed offensive on TikTok via his account 'nowad.acc4'. The prosecution contends that the upload was made with the intent to wound, insult, threaten, or harass others.

The offense is being prosecuted under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, with potential penalties under Section 233(2) of the same act. Conviction could result in a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both, along with an additional daily fine of RM5,000 for each day the offense continues after sentencing.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) prosecutor requested bail be set at RM10,000 with one Malaysian guarantor. However, the defense lawyer, 'Azi 'Azlin Zulkifli, argued for a lower bail amount, citing that the accused is the sole breadwinner for his two ailing parents.

Mohamad Norfirdaus works as a technician in Banting, earning RM3,000 per month. The court ultimately set bail at RM6,000 with one guarantor and scheduled October 7 for the next mention date. Mohamad Norfirdaus subsequently posted the bail.
