Tele2 named Lithuania's fastest 5G provider by Ookla

Tele2 has secured the title of the fastest 5G network in Lithuania, according to international testing firm Ookla's Speedtest Award for the first half of 2026. This recognition validates the company's strategy of investing in genuine, high-speed 5G deployment and consistently improving customer experience.

Petras Masiulis, Tele2 Group Vice President and General Director for the Baltic States, emphasized that the award confirms the tangible results of their efforts. Data from the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) shows Tele2 is Lithuania's most popular mobile operator by active SIM card numbers. Masiulis sees this as a significant sign of trust, complemented by the objective 5G speed assessment. "We will continue working to make high-quality connectivity easily accessible to more people," he pledged. Tele2 has invested €11.7 million in network quality from January to June this year, a nearly 15% increase year-on-year. The company installed 16 new base stations in the first half of the year, bringing the total to over 1,600. Tele2's 5G network reaches 90% of Lithuania's population, while 4G covers 99.99%. The company is also enhancing mobile connectivity along the "Via Baltica" road, with plans for 8 new base stations expected to benefit travelers and local residents and businesses. Tele2 partners with Nokia for network upgrades, utilizing the latest equipment across its network. Additional frequency acquisitions this year will further strengthen the 5G network, boost capacity, and improve coverage across Lithuania.
