Temperatures to reach 40 degrees Celsius again: heatwave continues, especially in the east

Austria is set for another intense heatwave, with temperatures predicted to soar to 40 degrees Celsius, especially in the eastern parts of the country. The week begins with high pressure dominating, bringing sunny skies and warm air from southwestern Europe. However, by the afternoon, the potential for showers and thunderstorms increases, particularly over the Alps.

Tuesday is expected to be similarly hot and sunny nationwide. While the western half of the country might see more cloud development and a higher chance of thunderstorms in the mountains, the lowlands are forecast to remain clear and very hot. Daily highs are anticipated to range from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius, with the eastern regions experiencing the most extreme temperatures.

Wednesday will continue the hot and sunny trend, though with increased atmospheric instability. Showers and thunderstorms are possible across mountainous areas and could extend to lower elevations. Temperatures will remain high, between 31 and 40 degrees Celsius, with the east remaining the hottest.

By Thursday, the weather pattern suggests widespread showers and thunderstorms developing in the warm, humid air, originating from the mountains and potentially affecting lowland areas later in the day. The southeast is expected to remain drier. Temperatures will range from 30 to 39 degrees Celsius. A shift in weather is anticipated for Friday, as a disturbance zone moves across Austria, bringing clouds, rain, and showers to the west and north, while the east and southeast may start sunny before thunderstorms develop. Temperatures will drop slightly, ranging from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius.
