Tension mounts in Anambra community over killing of traditional title holder

Tension grips the Nri community in Anambra State, Nigeria, after the killing of Oba Maduka Arubaluezeama, a prominent traditional title holder. Arubaluezeama was reportedly shot dead Tuesday evening at a construction site in a neighboring community while supervising workers.

Sources indicate the deceased was about to enter his vehicle when attackers shot him multiple times, first in the waist and then in the head. The incident has fueled speculation that the killing is connected to a protracted dispute over the Nri traditional stool, which has been vacant for eight years.

Just last year, the commander of Nri Central Vigilante, Ogazi, was also assassinated in the evening, and many people are suspecting the controversy around the traditional stool as the cause of the unfortunate happenings.

This is not the first violent incident linked to the controversy. A Chief, Sunday Alike, was allegedly attacked with machete wounds three years ago, and the commander of the Nri Central Vigilante, Ogazi, was assassinated last year. Residents also recall an earlier attack on members of the Nri traditional society during a meeting.

The community is now relying on security agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation and bring those responsible to justice. The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer stated he was unaware of the incident but promised to investigate.
