Tensions continue at Novi Sad’s Jovina High School as students re-enter principal’s office

Students at Jovina High School in Novi Sad entered Principal Radivoje Stojković’s office again, whistling as tensions continued at the school.

The students entered the office at 6:40 p.m. inside the Machine Engineering School, where Jovina’s students have been relocated. A uniformed police officer was in the room with Stojković.

The action followed the dismissal of several Jovina teachers earlier in the day. The principal’s decision came after a student protest and blockade the previous day. Students have continued protesting on the third floor of the Machine Engineering School, using whistles and vuvuzelas outside the principal’s office.

Five teachers lost their jobs at the end of August. Five others had been suspended near the end of the previous school year. A court later returned four of them, Marija Vasić, Rima Grujić, Jovan Travica and Dragan Vulić, to their jobs, but the school had still not issued formal decisions confirming their return.
