Tensions Flare at Istanbul Wedding as Family Tries to Prevent Ceremony; Police Escort Couple

A wedding in Istanbul's Arnavutköy district turned chaotic as the bride's family fiercely opposed the ceremony, leading to a significant confrontation. The bride, identified as B.K. (21), who was allegedly brought from Gaziantep about 45 days prior, was set to officially marry G.U. (38) at the Arnavutköy Municipality's Marriage Office.

However, the bride's father, A.K., and other relatives arrived at the venue to block the marriage, expressing strong objections to the union. During the ensuing tension, the bride and groom were unable to exit their vehicle for nearly an hour, with the vehicle's windows reportedly being smashed by family members.

Police intervention became necessary, and after assessing that there were no legal impediments to the marriage, they escorted the couple into the office to complete the official registration. Footage captured on mobile phones showed the altercation and the couple's confinement in the vehicle.

Following the ceremony, the bride's father, A.K., experienced a nervous breakdown and was taken to the hospital. He claimed his daughter had been held against her will for 45 days, alleging she was drugged and brought there against her wishes. He stated that petitions had been submitted to local authorities and the police chief was aware of the situation.

The groom, G.U., vehemently denied all allegations, calling them slanderous. He stated that their marriage was official and that legal proceedings were underway. He asserted that he was not involved in the situation for financial gain, noting he owns a blacksmith shop with a substantial monthly income.
