Terzic’s Athletic Announces Itself with First Win at Balaídos

Athletic Bilbao arrived in Vigo needing a result after losing to Sevilla and Barcelona. It left Balaídos with its first league victory under Edin Terzić, offering supporters the aggressive and energetic performance they had expected from the German coach.

Athletic settled the match in a brilliant first half. Álex Berenguer opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a curling shot into the far corner after Beñat Gerenabarrena won the ball in midfield. Two minutes later, Robert Navarro doubled the lead after another recovery launched a fast counterattack.

The visitors’ pressure repeatedly disrupted Celta’s buildup. Their 2-0 lead could have been larger, with goalkeeper Ionut Radu saving one-on-one chances from Oihan Sancet and Iñaki Williams. Gerenabarrena and Íñigo Ruiz de Galarreta drove the pressing effort and helped Athletic control the opening period.

Celta struggled to respond and heard whistles during the first part of the match. The defeat left Claudio Giráldez’s team with one point after three rounds, with a difficult trip to Real Sociedad next on its schedule.
