Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirms Republican candidates for mid-term elections

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has officially confirmed and met with all Republican candidates vying for seats in the upcoming mid-term elections on November 3. The slate of candidates reflects a strong conservative push, with prominent figures seeking key state positions.

Ken Paxton, the current 51st Attorney General of Texas, is running for the Senate. Paxton, who has served as AG since January 2015 and was re-elected twice, announced his Senate candidacy in April 2025, campaigning on extreme border security and voter ID laws. He previously received Donald Trump's endorsement during the Texas primaries.

Dan Patrick, the incumbent Lieutenant Governor, is seeking another term. First elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022, Patrick is known for championing legislation aligned with the conservative base. His initiatives include advocating for the Ten Commandments and prayer times in public schools, and adding "In God We Trust" to the Texas Senate.

Mayes Middleton, currently a state senator for District 11, is running for Attorney General. A graduate of the University of Texas Law School, Middleton is recognized as one of the state's most conservative legislators. She authored and passed the "Save Women's Sports Act," which prohibits biological males from competing in women's collegiate sports.

Don Huffines, a businessman and politician, has been appointed by Abbott as the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts as of July 2, 2026. He previously represented Texas Senate District 16 from 2015 to 2019. Huffines holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and co-founded Huffines Communities, a major real estate development firm in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dawn Buckingham is running for Commissioner.
