Thailand defeats Indonesia 2-0 in Srikandi Merdeka Cup qualifier

Thailand secured a 2-0 victory over Indonesia's Putri Nusantara in the opening match of the Srikandi Merdeka Cup qualification's Group B. The game, held at the Supersoccer Arena in Kudus, Central Java, saw a disciplined performance from the Thai team, who managed to break through Indonesia's defense.

Thailand took the lead in the 11th minute when Miricah Shealagh Murdoch headed in a rebound after the Indonesian goalkeeper, Naura Airish Qaisara Rifaldhi, initially parried a long ball. Despite falling behind, the Putri Nusantara squad, coached by Takumi Taniguchi, attempted counter-attacks but struggled to penetrate Thailand's solid defense.

In the second half, Indonesia showed more initiative, seeking an equalizer, but Thailand's tight defense thwarted their efforts. Thailand extended their lead in the 89th minute when Witchayada Wanasin converted a cross from Siriprapa Lamnamkham, sealing the 2-0 scoreline. Indonesia had several late chances but failed to capitalize before the final whistle.

Thailand's head coach, Thidarat Wiwasukhu, expressed satisfaction with the three points but acknowledged the need for tactical adjustments and minimizing fouls. "The players performed well, but there are still things we need to fix, like tactics and warning them to avoid fouls. I hope they can learn from today's match," Wiwasukhu stated. Miricah Shealagh Murdoch, who scored the opening goal, conveyed her pride and eagerness for future matches, noting the rapid development of women's football.
