"The PRI is disproven by its own history"; Morena celebrates INE decision against publications

Mexico's ruling party, Morena, has applauded a decision by the National Electoral Institute (INE) to order the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) to remove nine publications. These posts, including five from PRI's national leader Alejandro Moreno and four from the party's official accounts, falsely accused Morena of being a "narco-party" without providing any evidence.

Morena stated that the INE's Commission of Complaints and Denunciations did not censor political debate but rather addressed slander financed by public funds. The party emphasized that freedom of expression is central to democracy, but it must be exercised responsibly and with factual basis. Morena criticized the PRI for confusing freedom of expression with baseless accusations, calling it a deliberate strategy.

The party further asserted that it is not this movement but the courts, the PRI's own history, and the memory of Mexicans that disprove the PRI. Morena accused the PRI of resorting to lies and repeating insults that electoral authorities have already deemed unfounded. They highlighted that the PRI's current indignation appears rehearsed, contrasting it with the PRI's past marches defending the INE, suggesting the PRI only supports the electoral body when it benefits them.

Morena concluded that the PRI's actions demonstrate a lack of understanding that electoral rules apply to everyone. The party reiterated its support for the INE's decision, emphasizing that while they champion freedom of expression, it must be accompanied by accountability and substantiation.
