The “Spanish Manhattan” Is Getting the EU’s Tallest Apartment Tower, Overtaking Warsaw’s Złota 44

Warsaw’s 192-metre Złota 44, designed by Daniel Libeskind, currently holds the title of the European Union’s tallest apartment building. It may keep that distinction for only about two more years. A new tower in Benidorm, Spain, has received a construction permit and is planned to rise 230 metres.

The project, called TM Tower, will stand just 50 metres from Poniente beach, in one of Benidorm’s most exclusive areas. The Costa Blanca resort, about half an hour north of Alicante, is known as the “Spanish Manhattan”. Its skyline is dominated by towers built along the beach, housing apartments, restaurants and nightclubs that serve roughly three million visitors each year.

TM Tower will leave Benidorm’s current tallest building, the 202-metre InTempo, far behind. It will also become Spain’s fourth-tallest building and the highest residential complex in the European Union. Spanish developer TM Grupo Inmobiliario is investing €140 million, while BakPak Architects of Seville and Gea Architects of Elche designed the project. Construction is scheduled to finish in the second half of 2028.

The 64-storey building will have an organic, dynamic shape inspired by coral. It will contain 260 homes, ranging from one-room studios to apartments with four bedrooms. Residents will have access to a spa, gym, cinema, nursery, panoramic terraces, swimming pools and a rooftop bar with an astronomical observatory.

The development is aimed less at tourists than at Benidorm’s current and future residents. At least initially, the upper floors will contain private homes rather than rental apartments. The developer said tourists will be able to use the apartments only if residents agree and the law permits it. Shared facilities open to outsiders will be located in the lower part of the tower. More than 25% of the apartments were reserved within days of sales launching. Prices start at €530,000, while the most expensive units cost nearly €3.5 million.
