"The Taste of Life" Actor Wang Kai Dies Suddenly; Final Scenes Air

Actor Wang Kai, whose real name was Wang Jian-lung, passed away unexpectedly on July 26 at his rented residence, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry. His final appearance in the Sanli eight o'clock drama "The Taste of Life" aired on August 4. The scriptwriters cleverly arranged for his character, Xu Jing-han, to travel to the United States on urgent business, concluding his storyline with a heartfelt letter to the audience.

Wang Kai's memorial service, open for three days, saw his agent share that "The Taste of Life" producers, Xu Jia-sen and Gong Cui-ping, had visited the wake. They reportedly conveyed a message to Wang Kai in their hearts: "It's a wrap, you don't need to come back." The agent expressed that this message was meant to let Wang Kai know his work was successfully completed, allowing him to rest peacefully.

In the drama, Wang Kai's character, Xu Jing-han, was developing a significant romantic storyline with Ke Fan-xing, played by Xia Yu-he. The sudden news of his death forced the production team to hastily rewrite the plot. Xu Jing-han's departure was depicted as an urgent business trip to the U.S., unable to say a personal farewell. He entrusted a letter and a heart-shaped locket to his friend, Han Yi-bang, for delivery. Xia Yu-he, during the filming of the scene where she reads the letter and reminisces about their past, was overcome with emotion and broke down in tears, a moment that also moved many viewers.

Recalling the day of Wang Kai's passing, his agent mentioned that he had a scheduled filming for 2:30 PM. Upon receiving the news at 2 PM, the production team quickly adapted, vowing "not to fall." Other artists filming that evening at the Sanli studio reportedly felt Wang Kai's presence as he departed and mentally called out to Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, asking for his peaceful passage.
