Third drone found in Romania in one day near Ukraine border

Romanian authorities raised alerts for the third time in a single day after a drone was discovered in the border town of Plauru, which lies opposite Ukraine. This incident adds to a recent increase in similar occurrences along Romania's border.

The Ministry of National Defence confirmed it was notified of a drone sighting in the Plauru area of Tulcea county. A specialized team was dispatched to identify the object and secure the location. Plauru is situated in the Danube Delta, near the Ukrainian city of Izmail.

This marks the third confirmed drone incident in Romania on this day. A fourth suspected drone was found on a beach and is currently under investigation. Earlier, fragments of a drone were found attached to a lifeguard post on a Black Sea beach in Constanța county, adjacent to Tulcea. Authorities believe these fragments may belong to a device spotted floating near the shore the previous day.

Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized the urgency of equipping the military with drone combat systems. He acknowledged that the war initiated by Russia's aggression against Ukraine is having tangible effects on Romania's borders. The Prime Minister anticipates that drones or their debris launched in the conflict zone will continue to reach Romanian territory.
