Thousands in Panevėžys District Still Without Power Days After Devastating Storm

The Panevėžys district is still grappling with the aftermath of a severe storm, with thousands of residents remaining without electricity days after the event. Cleanup operations are in full swing, focusing on restoring vital services like power and water.

The municipality reported that while water supply has been partially restored to some villages using mobile generators, hundreds of households are still in the dark. "Velžis Communal Economy" states that 9 out of 40 district water facilities are not receiving power. Municipal administration director Edmundas Toliušis expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of municipal employees, services, volunteers, and residents, emphasizing that work will continue until power and water are restored to every home.

Mobile generators have been deployed since Sunday to manage the emergency situation, successfully resuming water supply in Barklainiai, Burveliai, Linkaučiai, Nevėžys, Rabikiai, and Vadokliai–Mikėnai. However, residents in Pragarėlė, Preidžiai, and Jasvilonys are still awaiting water restoration after being cut off since Saturday. According to ESO, there are 217 power supply disruptions in the Panevėžys district, affecting 2,405 consumers, with repair crews actively working in Karsakiškis, Smilgius, and Vadokliai.

Firefighters have been working tirelessly to clear hundreds of fallen trees and hazardous branches that pose risks to power lines and public safety. Municipal employees and volunteers are also clearing roads, tidying cemeteries, and cleaning public spaces. Assistance is being provided to residents, including water distribution and charging facilities for essential devices at municipal buildings.

The municipality has begun registering the storm's damage. Following the government's declaration of a state-level emergency, efforts are underway to assess the losses incurred. Information regarding agricultural damage is being collected until September 10, with affected agricultural companies and farmers encouraged to report their losses to their local elderates.
