Thousands of Accordionists Unite in Slovenia for Record Attempt

Velenje, Slovenia – A remarkable gathering of 4066 accordionists descended upon Velenje today, aiming to etch their names in the Guinness World Records for the largest group performance on the instrument. While the ambitious attempt to surpass China's record of 5282 players ultimately fell short, the event resonated deeply as a powerful display of Slovenian spirit and musical heritage.

President Nataša Pirc Musar, who served as the honorary patron, eloquently framed the day not merely as a pursuit of numbers, but as a vibrant festival celebrating the heart, soul, and unifying power of music. She underscored the significance of such a large-scale participation from Slovenia, a nation of just over two million people, in comparison to China's vast population. The presence of notable figures, including former Prime Minister Janez Janša, further highlighted the event's national importance.

Today on Visti, which was bursting at the seams, no one played for themselves, but for Slovenia – for the sense of unity, pride, and belonging that, as she said, generations will remember.

The event's initiator, accordionist Robert Goter, who recently set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous accordion performance (over 83 hours), was lauded for his vision in bringing thousands together. His dedication, exemplified by his personal endurance record, served as an inspiration for the mass performance. Goter expressed that this year's event was a prelude to an even grander attempt planned for next year, signaling Slovenia's enduring commitment to its beloved instrument.

Mayor Peter Dermol proudly declared Velenje a "small world city" and Slovenia a nation with a "big heart."
