Three arrested for university student's murder during Gorgona robbery

Panamanian authorities have apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in the fatal robbery of a university student at a beach house in Gorgona. The arrests were made through operational actions in the Capira and Chame districts of Panama Oeste province.

The victim, identified as Héctor Orlando García, approximately 23 years old, was with about 16 companions at a rented residence for a weekend getaway. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 9, when three hooded and armed men reportedly broke into the house near midnight.

During the assault, the men proceeded to steal the belongings of everyone present. Tragically, the university student was shot during the robbery and later succumbed to his injuries. The National Police confirmed the arrests and stated the three suspects have been placed at the disposal of the competent authorities.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their alleged participation in the aggravated homicide. The crime has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting concerns about safety in popular tourist areas.
