Three Arrested in Daugavpils Robbery After Victim's Head Was Bagged

Latvian police have arrested three individuals in connection with a robbery that took place in Daugavpils on June 27. The incident involved a brazen attack where a 62-year-old man had a bag placed over his head before his personal belongings were stolen.

According to the State Police, the victim was in a courtyard near a retail store when three men approached him from behind. One assailant forcefully placed a bag over the victim's head, while another seized his handbag. The stolen items included the man's passport, a wristwatch, a mobile phone, and a bank card.

Responding swiftly to the report, police initiated an investigation. Two suspects were apprehended on the same day, June 27, with the third individual taken into custody later. The arrested individuals have been subjected to pre-trial detention measures that do not involve deprivation of liberty.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 176, Part 2 of the Criminal Law, pertaining to robbery committed by a group of individuals by prior agreement or involving entry into a vehicle, dwelling, or other premises. The potential penalty for this offense includes imprisonment for up to eight years. The criminal proceedings have been transferred to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of prosecution, with the case expected to proceed to trial.
