Three Dead, Including Toddler, After Truck Plows into Pedestrians in Santo Domingo

A tragic accident in Santo Domingo's Los Ríos sector claimed the lives of three individuals, including a young child, when a double-cab pickup truck veered off Coronel Juan María Lora Fernández Avenue. The victims were a long-time avocado vendor, a young woman who had recently started selling fruit in the area, and her toddler daughter, who was only about 18 months old.

Eyewitnesses stated that the three were sitting on the avenue's median when the truck, reportedly driven by someone who lost control, left the roadway and struck them. Security camera footage captured the high-speed incident, showing the vehicle mounting the curb. Emergency services, traffic police, and other responders arrived at the scene.

The bodies were transported to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences for examination. Visible traces of blood and shattered vehicle glass remained on the pavement as residents and shopkeepers looked on in shock. The avocado vendor was a well-known figure in the community.

The driver of the pickup truck, who sustained a minor forehead injury, was apprehended by the National Police. While witnesses reported the driver claimed to have lost control, authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of the accident. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, and the case remains under investigation.
