Elderly disabled man dies in fire in Slovenian village

An elderly disabled man has died following a house fire in the village of Velika Polana, Slovenia. The fire broke out in a residential building in the settlement, known as "European Village Štorkelj," on the outskirts of the village. Despite the swift response of firefighters from PGD Velika Polana, police, and emergency medical services from the Lendava Health Center, the man could not be saved.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are ongoing. The incident occurred in the afternoon, and emergency services were present at the scene. The victim was a resident of the house where the fire originated.

This was not the only fire incident in the Pomurje region on the same day. Earlier, at 1:49 PM, firefighters from PGD Ljutomer responded to a car fire on Industrijska Street in Ljutomer. They secured the scene, extinguished the blaze, and inspected the vehicle with a thermal imaging camera. The cause and material damage from this car fire are still being determined by the police.

Additionally, police in Murska Sobota are investigating a fire that occurred at 2:31 AM on Slomškova Street in Murska Sobota, affecting the premises of the District Court. Firefighters from PGD Murska Sobota extinguished this fire, inspected the premises with a thermal camera, and ventilated the area. The cause of this court fire is also under investigation.
