Three Ecuadorians Captured with 1.17 Tons of Suspected Drugs in Mexico

The Mexican Navy has successfully intercepted a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, apprehending six individuals and seizing a significant quantity of suspected narcotics. The operation, conducted approximately 851 kilometers south of Acapulco, resulted in the confiscation of about 1.17 tons of what appears to be cocaine.

During maritime surveillance patrols, naval personnel detected a small vessel equipped with three outboard motors. A subsequent inspection revealed 39 packages containing approximately 1,170 kilograms of a substance consistent with cocaine. The Mexican Security Cabinet confirmed on August 7, 2026, that the detained individuals included three Mexican and three Ecuadorian citizens.

In addition to the drug haul, authorities seized approximately 2,450 liters of fuel stored in 49 containers. The intercepted vessel, three satellite communication devices, and two radio beacons were also confiscated. The apprehended individuals and all seized materials have been transferred to the Mexican Attorney General's Office (FGR) for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This seizure is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking along maritime routes in the Pacific Ocean, which Mexican authorities identify as a major corridor for illicit substance movement. The Mexican Navy has reported confiscating over 80 tons of alkaloids at sea during the current federal administration, partly in response to pressure from the United States to curb drug flow.
