Three federal university students kidnapped in Nasarawa

Three students from the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) have been kidnapped from their off-campus lodge in Lafia, Nasarawa State, marking the latest security incident to affect students of the institution. The 100-level students were reportedly taken from Sure Leaders Lodge in the Bukan Kwato area on Saturday evening. As of the time of reporting, the police had not yet released an official statement.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) confirmed the kidnapping on Sunday, stating that they are actively engaging with traditional authorities and the university management. The SUG President, Jabir Ibrahim, and Secretary-General, Ibrahim Aliyu, issued a public safety notice urging students to remain calm and vigilant, avoid unnecessary movements, and report suspicious activities.

The Students’ Union leadership has met with the District Head and relevant authorities and is collaborating with the University Management on security measures.

This abduction occurs less than three weeks after a similar incident on July 8, 2026, where three FULafia students were abducted from Living Seed Lodge. While police confirmed that earlier abduction and launched a search-and-rescue operation, only one student was later rescued, with efforts ongoing for the remaining victims.

The recurring attacks have intensified concerns about the safety of students residing in private hostels near the university, particularly those close to bushy areas known for criminal activity. Nasarawa State continues to face persistent security challenges, with ongoing operations against kidnapping syndicates and armed gangs, yet isolated attacks persist.
