Three Internet and Music Stars Die in Brazilian Helicopter Crashes in Two Months

A disturbing pattern of fatal helicopter accidents in Brazil has sent shockwaves through the digital and music communities, with three prominent personalities losing their lives in separate aerial incidents within less than two months. The latest tragedy occurred on August 8, 2026, when Colombian content creator Sofía Murillo, her mother, and grandmother perished in a helicopter tour crash near Rio de Janeiro.

Murillo, a 17-year-old influencer known for her beauty content and thousands of followers, was in Brazil to celebrate a family birthday. The helicopter carrying her, her mother Wendy Manrique, and grandmother Rocío Cubillos, along with the pilot, crashed and caught fire near Vista Chinesa shortly after takeoff from Jacarepaguá. All four on board were killed.

This incident eerily echoes the aerial collision that occurred on June 14, 2026. On that day, American singer and producer Oliver Tree, 32, and Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim Díaz, popularly known as Gaspi, 23, died when the helicopter they were traveling in collided mid-air with another aircraft over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood. Gaspi, recognized for his street interviews and irreverent humor, was traveling with his audiovisual team. Oliver Tree, an icon of the alternative music scene, was also on board after performing a show in São Paulo. The June crash resulted in six fatalities, including the two creators, their companions, and the pilots.

The recurrence of these tragic accidents, particularly the similar circumstances surrounding Murillo's death just two months after the Oliver Tree and Gaspi crash in the same city, has intensified calls for stricter regulations on tourist helicopter flights in Brazil.
