Three Killed in Tragic Crash at Cong 11 Intersection

A woman and two children died at the scene after the motorbike they were traveling on collided with a tractor-trailer at the Cong 11 intersection in Dong Nai on September 8. A third child was injured and taken to Dong Nai Children's Hospital by local residents.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m. Authorities arrived to regulate traffic and investigate the incident. The intersection connects National Highway 51 with Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Bui Van Hoa Street, and regularly experiences heavy congestion.

Traffic arrangements at the junction have changed this year. It previously operated as a roundabout with traffic lights. From March, officials narrowed the roundabout, and by the end of June they had removed it entirely.

Dong Nai authorities have a longer-term plan to rebuild the intersection as a multilevel facility, both to ease congestion and improve road safety. The plan calls for an overpass linking National Highway 51 with Vo Nguyen Giap Street, with traffic circulating in a roundabout below.

The project forms part of a proposed elevated road along National Highway 51, between the Vung Tau intersection and the junction of Vo Nguyen Giap Street with the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway. Construction is expected to run from 2026 to 2029, with a preliminary investment of about 16.406 trillion Vietnamese dong under a build-operate-transfer public-private partnership.
