Three obstacles intentionally placed on Constanța-Mangalia railway line; police investigating

Romanian railway authorities reported that three obstacles were intentionally placed on the Constanța-Mangalia railway line on Wednesday, August 12. The obstructions were discovered on the second track of circulation by a track inspector traveling from Agigea.

At kilometer 226+730, several sleepers were found near the tracks. At kilometer 226+520, a pile of branches lay between the rails. The most serious incident occurred at kilometer 226+400, where a concrete kilometer marker had been deliberately placed within the railway's clearance gauge.

All items were removed before the 12:40 train from Mangalia to Constanța passed through. The Railway Transport Police have been notified and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the placement of these objects and seeking to identify those responsible. CFR, the national railway company, warned that such intentional obstructions pose a significant risk to rail safety and could cause severe accidents.

This incident is the latest in a series of similar events. Two other cases were recorded in June and July 2026 on the Regional Railway Branch Constanța. In July, the driver of train R 8819 reported an obstruction on the tracks near Constanța station, described as a safety marker placed in the railway's clearance gauge.
