Thunderstorms and Extreme Heat Grip Kazakhstan Amid Storm Warning

Kazakhstan is facing a volatile weather outlook, with storm warnings issued for nearly the entire country. Residents can expect overnight rain and thunderstorms in major cities like Astana and Almaty, with some mountainous regions, such as the Ile Alatau mountains near Almaty, anticipating heavy downpours, hail, and squalls during the day. Winds are also expected to pick up, with gusts reaching up to 20 meters per second in certain areas, particularly near the Alakol lakes.

Despite the incoming precipitation, a significant threat of extreme heat and fire hazard remains. Many regions, especially in the south and east, are under high or extreme fire risk warnings. Daytime temperatures are forecast to climb as high as 35 degrees Celsius in some parts of the Ulytau Region, and even reach 38 degrees Celsius in the northeast and south of the Mangystau Region. This combination of heat and dry conditions poses a considerable risk for wildfires.

The weather forecast indicates varied conditions across different regions. For instance, the Karaganda Region is expecting rain, thunderstorms, hail, and squalls in its northern and eastern parts, with heavy rain possible overnight in the east. Meanwhile, the Mangystau Region anticipates rain and thunderstorms in its western, northern, and central areas, alongside extreme heat. The Akmola Region is forecast to have rain and thunderstorms in the south and east, with fog expected in the west and north. The Aktobe region will see light rain and thunderstorms in the south and east, with intense heat of 35-37 degrees Celsius also expected in these areas.
