Thunderstorms Forecast for Northern Ghana; Mist and Fog Expected in South

Northern Ghana is bracing for thunderstorms and rain on Wednesday, while the southern parts of the country are expected to experience mist and fog, according to the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET).

The agency's forecast indicates that several locations in the northern and transition belts could see rain accompanied by thunder during the morning hours. Meanwhile, southern Ghana's coastal, forest, and mountainous regions are likely to be covered by mist and fog, which could reduce visibility for travelers. Some areas in the south might also encounter light rain or drizzle in the morning.

Conditions are expected to improve across most of the country later in the day, with a mix of sunshine and clouds. However, GMET warns that thunderstorms and rain could return to parts of the northern, transition, and middle belts from late afternoon into the evening. Temperatures are predicted to range from a minimum of 21°C in the transition belt to a maximum of 33°C in northern Ghana. Coastal areas will likely see temperatures between 23°C and 29°C, and forest zones between 23°C and 30°C.

Accra and Winneba might experience brief morning rain before becoming partly cloudy. Takoradi, Axim, Koforidua, and Kumasi are expected to wake up to misty conditions. Northern cities like Tamale, Bolgatanga, Wa, Damongo, and Nalerigu are forecast to have a mix of morning clouds and sun, with a possibility of late afternoon or evening thunderstorms in some areas. The sea conditions are expected to remain calm, favoring marine activities.

GMET advises the public, especially motorists in mist-prone areas, to exercise caution due to reduced visibility. Residents in areas expecting afternoon and evening thunderstorms are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
