Tinubu Appoints Olanrewaju-Smart Special Adviser on House of Reps Matters

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, a 40-year-old public policy expert, as his new Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters, focusing on the House of Representatives. This appointment fills the vacancy left by Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned earlier this year to contest an elective position in his home state.

According to a statement released by the President's Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed confidence that Olanrewaju-Smart will leverage his extensive experience, intellect, and commitment to enhance legislative coordination and foster stronger relations between the Presidency, government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), and the House of Representatives. The appointment is effective immediately.

Olanrewaju-Smart brings a robust academic and professional background to the role. He holds a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was also an Edward Mason Fellow in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Further enriching his expertise, he was a LEAPS Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and holds a professional diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations. His policy research has also involved work on significant legislation, including the Interest-Free Student Loan Act.

His career in the National Assembly spans several key positions, including Research and Media Assistant to the Minority/Majority Leader in the 7th and 8th Assemblies. He later served as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff, and ultimately Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives during the 9th and 10th Assemblies. Prior to this new role, Olanrewaju-Smart served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Intergovernmental Affairs from October 2023.
