Tinubu jittery over Makinde’s growing popularity – APM

Nigeria's Allied People's Movement (APM) has accused President Bola Tinubu's administration of being "jittery" over the growing popularity of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde. The APM claims the federal government's recent criticisms of Makinde, particularly from presidential media aide Daniel Bwala, demonstrate a fear of the governor's potential challenge in the 2027 presidential election.

The APM, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, asserted that the Tinubu administration is resorting to "name-calling and disparagement" because it lacks a strong record of achievements to present to Nigerians. The party insisted that Makinde, based on his performance as governor, is poised to defeat Tinubu.

It is rather pathetic that the Tinubu Presidency has fallen so low into ignominy that it now relies on internationally discredited and politically inconsistent characters like Daniel Bwala to speak for it on national TV; a situation that further confirms that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu no longer commands the support of credible Nigerians.

Reacting to Bwala's dismissal of Makinde and the APM as inconsequential, the APM described it as "pathetic and unfortunate." They argued that the presidency has fallen into "political ignominy" by relying on what they called "internationally discredited and politically inconsistent characters." The party also suggested that Bwala's past statements would eventually be contradicted, referencing a specific interview.

The APM framed the 2027 presidential race as a contest between Governor Makinde, supported by "millions of Nigerians who are determined for a new beginning," and a "failed President Tinubu" with only the support of "syophantic, corrupt, arrogant and morally depraved minions." The party stated it would not be drawn into an exchange of insults, maintaining its focus on issues vital to Nigerians.

The APM is, therefore, not surprised that the Tinubu Presidency is deflated and intimidated because it has no tangible scorecard of achievements to present to the public, given its abysmal failures, for which Nigerians across the board have reached a consensus to replace President Tinubu with Governor Makinde at the 2027 election, given Makinde’s outstanding performance as Governor of Oyo State.
