Tinubu mourns as ex-finance minister Adeosun loses husband

President Bola Tinubu has offered his condolences to former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, on the passing of her husband, Anthony Adeosun. Anthony Adeosun died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, in Lagos at the age of 62.

President Tinubu conveyed his sympathies in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The statement acknowledged the outpouring of testimonies regarding Mr. Adeosun's life and good works, particularly his dedication to supporting the less privileged. Tinubu described him as a devout Christian whose commitment to charitable causes significantly impacted many lives.

The Adeosun family announced the death in a statement signed by Rev. C. A. Adeosun, expressing profound sorrow but also submission to God's will. The statement described Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun as a distinguished businessman and devoted Christian known for his integrity, generosity, and steadfast faith. It noted that he lived a life defined by hard work, service to God, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos.

Details regarding the funeral and Christian burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course. The deceased is survived by his wife, Kemi; his children; and siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital. The family expressed gratitude for the prayers, condolences, and support received during this difficult period.

Kemi Adeosun served as Nigeria's Minister of Finance from 2015 to 2018 under former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration. During her tenure, she played a key role in formulating the country's economic policy response to the 2016 recession.
