Tinubu Orders Forensic Audit of Federal Systems Amidst Fake Agency Concerns

President Bola Tinubu has initiated a sweeping forensic audit of federal government systems, targeting the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), ministries, and other institutions. The directive, overseen by the Minister of Finance, aims to uncover and rectify issues related to fake agencies and ghost workers, following findings by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The audit will scrutinize payroll and personnel platforms for fraud, tracing how fictitious individuals were enrolled and reviewing access controls. It will also assess interfaces with other government platforms like GIFMIS and the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to determine if system defects or process failures enabled fraud. This comprehensive review seeks to establish the extent of weaknesses in the government's control systems and how they have been exploited.

Beyond the financial systems, the audit will encompass all federal government agencies, departments, and bodies to verify their legal basis and official standing. It will assess how these entities gain recognition, funding, and access to government systems, while also evaluating governance, procurement, and internal audit controls. President Tinubu stressed that securing lives is non-negotiable and fundamental to achieving Nigeria’s economic ambitions and lasting prosperity.

In parallel, Tinubu urged unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 general election. He called on the party's 31 governors to lead grassroots mobilization efforts to ensure widespread support across their states.
