Tinubu outperformed past presidents in first term, claims APC scribe

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that President Bola Tinubu has surpassed all democratically elected Nigerian presidents in their respective first terms. Morka defended the administration's performance, stating that the economic "records speak for themselves."

During a Channels Television interview, Morka argued that Tinubu inherited an economy in a "complete mess." He credited the APC-led government's policies with engineering an economic turnaround, suggesting that Nigeria has "come out of the woods" on a macroeconomic level. He also claimed that critics are now commending Tinubu's administration.

Morka controversially described former President Muhammadu Buhari, also of the APC, as a "stopgap president." He suggested Buhari's role was to "keep the country from tipping over the precipice" after "16 years of horrific maladministration by the PDP government," thereby stabilizing the nation for Tinubu's takeover.

Since Nigeria's return to democracy in 1999, the country has seen several civilian presidents. Olusegun Obasanjo, Umar Yar'Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) served a combined 16 years. Muhammadu Buhari served two terms from 2015 to 2023, while President Tinubu, elected in 2023, is nearing the end of his first term. Both Buhari and Tinubu were elected on the APC platform.
